Nokia’s Pureview 808 captures curvature of Earth in 41MP glory (or thereabouts) from 34km up… and what’s up with Iceland these days always in the news re near-space?! (via yesterday’s Engadget article)
RT @HilmarVeigar #eveonline “are go for launch into space at noon tomorrow!”… ok it is only 30km up on a balloon but getting close! The game’s mother company CCP has decided to run their own “space program” by flying a high altitude balloon with a 2kg silicon replica of a EVE online spaceship payload… some time tomorrow.
For those not in the know, EVE Online is one of the most successful SF multiplayer online games to-date, voted best MMORPG by mmorpg.com for 4 out of the last 5 years. In this world, 1/2m players create their spacefaring characters, get their own rudimentary starter spacecraft, and set out to become builders, traders, miners or desperados in deep space.
Disclaimer: you can tell from the unashamedly glowing prose above that I played this back in 2008/2009 when the game was rather rough and ready, but still unhealthily addictive. Kudos to CCP for kickstarting this project with University of Reykjavik students, and good luck for tomorrow!
